We are husband and wife team Jaimie & Andrew Johnston. Our award winning business The Memory Knot Company was born following our wedding in 2005. The planning was a mixture of excitement and stress... mostly stress! Organising all the different suppliers & coordinating was a real hassle. No one should have to feel so pressured while creating their special day or event.
We are based in Alston, Cumbria, in the heart of the North Pennines.
Our location makes us conveniently based to service both the North East & North West of England, as well North Yorkshire and the Scottish Borders. However, we can also help if your event is further away... just call us to chat about your requirements.
We endeavour to take the stress out of your event... big or small! We provide a personal, friendly and understanding service brought about by our own experiences, and those of our customers. We provide one of the largest selections of items for hire at reasonable prices so you do not have waste precious time sourcing items or having the expense of buying them! Andrew is a qualified traditional Blacksmith, and can list ironwork such as lights made for Harrods and more locally, the Chillingham Castle bat as part of his portfolio of work. Andrew has created a unique and expanding range of beautiful ironwork for hire, unavailable anywhere else.
We work closely with a 'tried-n-trusted' group of local suppliers and venues that we can recommend to save you time and money. What's more, we do not charge for this service and offer a loyalty card scheme, with selected special offers!

As well as using recycled paper, and recycling waste products, we have now stopped producing printed versions of our hire catalogue in favour of online, and CD versions reducing the usage of ink, paper, and electricity.

Tiny Lives Charity was set up to support the Neonatal Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne, which specialises in saving the lives of premature babies. Tiny Lives help by raising funds to buy extras not provided by the NHS.

The Memory Knot Company is one of the first to offer an event recycling service for your empty bottles, cans, cardboard and general waste to be collected and recycled by us further reducing your events carbon footprint.
